Dr. Cristina Rivera-Kumpf has been working with individuals, couples, and families, with a myriad of behavioral health challenges for over 20 years as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), and as a National Certified Counselor (NCC). To this end, in 2014 she co-founded Illuminations Counseling & Supervision Services, a private practice in Mt. Lebanon, PA. Under her leadership, the private practice quickly grew and allowed her to expand her scope of clinical practice as well as her presence as a helping professional within the Mt. Lebanon, Upper St. Clair, Squirrel Hill, and surrounding Pittsburgh areas. 

Over the years, Dr. Rivera-Kumpf has continued to identify as a clinician, teacher, and scholar within the counseling profession as she has been afforded the opportunity to both present and publish at the graduate level. Similarly, she has also taught within two leading Counselor Education programs in the Pittsburgh area, which includes Duquesne University and California University of Pennsylvania. 

As a true life-long learner and an advocate of personal development work for both her and her clients, Dr. Rivera-Kumpf completed a Doctoral Internship at WPIC Child and Adolescent Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Clinic, a two-year training program at the Gestalt Institute of Pittsburgh and earned her EMDR certification through the EMDR Institute, Inc founded by Francine Shapiro, PhD. 

For over 20 years, Dr. Rivera-Kumpf has developed a sophisticated understanding of the relationship between the mind and body, including how the human body manages itself in relation to complex trauma. She views mindfulness practice, nature-based counseling, and body process work as pathways that can help clients connect with their authentic self in the present moment. 

Dr. Rivera-Kumpf’s education includes an undergraduate teaching degree and certification from Alderson Broaddus University, a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from Chatham University, and a Doctorate of Counselor Education and Supervision from Duquesne University.
